The Johnson Laboratory here at the University of Colorado is actively seeking ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� undergraduate students to gain research experience and get PAID ($2,000-3,000) this summer. We are looking for independent, self-motivated undergraduate students who are passionate about pursuing research in aquatic ecology and conservation to apply for funding provided by UROP at ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��.

Include in a well-developed email: your GPA, previous professional experiences (no experience is required this is learning opportunity), year you are in school, and why you are interested in UROP (i.e., how this position would benefit you in achieving your career goals).

Currently we are exploring the following three projects for summer UROP positions:

1. Diversity and Disease (FIELD): this project aims to understand how interactions among species within an aquatic community collectively influence pathogen transmission and disease risk. Students interested in this position will be station out in the Bay Area of California from May-mid August. Students will work as part of our amphibian field team in which they will use field and lab techniques (dip nets, seines, visual surveys, pathogen swabbing, snail dissection, data entry) to monitor and assess amphibian populations.

2. Bd vaccine development (FIELD): this project aims to understand if Bd resistance be induced in wild populations of hosts within an aquatic community. Students interested in this position will be station out in the Bay Area of California from May-mid August. Students will work as part of our amphibian field team in the first half of the summer in which they will use field and lab techniques (dip nets, seines, visual surveys, pathogen swabbing, snail dissection, data entry) to monitor and assess amphibian populations. The second part of the summer will primarily focus on assisting a Phd candidate in assess Bd in experimental ponds by swabbing larval and adult amphibians.

3. Parasite disease in amphibians (LAB): this project aims to understand how interactions among species within an aquatic community collectively influence pathogen transmission and disease risk. Students interested in this position will be working in the Johnson Laboratory here at CU starting in May through beginning of August. Students will work as part of our amphibian necropsy and husbandry team in which they will dissect various amphibians to test for various pathogens—like the trematode that causes frogs to grow multiple legs!

GSS is a diverse network of scientists and changemakers with a focus in the future of global sustainability. Climate Adaptation Scientists of Tomorrow (CAST) Program

Undergraduate Research Experience

To advance climate adaptation science and increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields, the Climate Adaptation Scientists of Tomorrow Program brings undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty together with CASC partners to cultivate the next generation of climate scientists.

Program Locations:

· Auburn University: Located in Auburn, Alabama, participants in this program will focus on climate impacts on water systems in the Gulf of Mexico upland watersheds. Each student will be paired with two faculty mentors and a graduate-student mentor to provide guidance throughout the summer. In addition to undertaking their own research, participants will share programming with participants at Louisiana State University and participate in a culminating research symposium.

· Louisiana State University: Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, participants at this location will focus their research on climate impacts on the water systems of coastal environments. Mentoring will be provided by faculty scholars and a cohort of graduate students. In addition to undertaking their own research, participants will share programming with participants at Auburn University and participate in a culminating research symposium in Auburn, Alabama.

· University of Colorado, Boulder: Located in Boulder, Colorado, participants at this location will partner with regional Tribal Colleges and Universities to advance inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in climate adaptation science. Undergraduates will receive one-to-one mentorship from an on-campus graduate student and faculty member. The participants will work with identified mentors to identify relevant research projects and engage with other on-campus programs to gain experience in the field.

· University of Massachusetts Amherst: Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, participants will join a center with existing programs to expand the perspectives in climate adaptation research. The undergraduates will receive mentoring from other undergraduate programs, dedicated graduate students, and faculty scientists. In consultation with faculty, the participants to contribute to existing research projects focused on invasion ecology, biogeography, coastal hazards or climate change ecology.

Undergraduate Research Experience, Features and Benefits:

Eligibility:

Participants must be enrolled as a student, full-time, at an accredited academic institution (community college, college, or university)
Participants must be rising sophomores or juniors
Participants must be in good academic standing (GPA 3.0 or higher)
Students from populations historically underrepresented in the sciences are especially encouraged to apply

Financial Considerations:

Program provides 10 weeks of room and board for two summers
Program provides a stipend for two summers (depends on location, minimum of $3,500 per summer)
Program provides funds for round-trip travel to site
Medical/health insurance is not provided

��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

The SURP is an intensive, 9-week internship designed to provide research experience and mentorship for rising-senior undergraduate students who are interested in biomedical research. Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, students will:

Complete an independent research project;
Attend weekly research seminars;
Participate in professional development workshops designed to facilitate the preparation of competitive applications for graduate/medical school; and
Present their findings at a competitive poster session.

The program will run from Monday, June 13 – Friday, August 12, 2022. An online application for the 2022 SURP is now available on the SURP website.

The application deadline is midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, January 7, 2022. Letters of recommendation for up to two references are due by midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, January 14, 2022.

While we are planning to hold an on-site experience in 2022, we are monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and assessing the safest way for students and staff to conduct the program next summer.

Through the University of Colorado Cancer Center's Cancer Research Experience for Undergraduates (CREU), every summer 23 college undergraduate students are given the opportunity to spend ten weeks in our laboratories at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The goal of the program is to engage scientific curiosity in the next generation of scientists, challenging qualified college undergraduates to consider a cancer-related career in the future.

Fellowships are open to:

Currently enrolled college undergraduates – including seniors
Minority and disadvantaged students are encouraged to apply
You must be a US citizen to apply

What to know about the Cancer Research Experience for Undergraduates:

All activities are subject to whether the campus is under Covid restrictions or not.
Fellows work full-time for approximately ten weeks during the summer from June 1 – August 4, 2022.
Fellows may not combine their research work with other significant work commitments or daytime class work.
Stipends are paid in monthly installments through direct deposit as fellows complete their program requirements.
A housing allowance may be provided on an as-needed basis. Housing options will be sent to accepted trainees. A Facebook page of admitted students will be set up in the Spring. You may also find a roommate there.
Fellows must commit to completing program requirements, including attending orientation and weekly lectures and events, writing a project proposal, and presenting a final poster at the poster session. Students who cannot attend the poster session are required to write a final paper.

GSS is accepting applications from undergraduates to become GSS Ocean Scholars

The GSS Program offers a diverse community of practice and a 10-week paid professional training and research experience with a sustainability organization for students from traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM fields. This program aims to bridge young students to career or graduate school focused on sustainability issues.

Time Commitment: 10 weeks in Summer 2022

Summer 2022 - Our international research experience will be focused on Ocean Sustainability. Students may travel abroad or domestically, however, remote research opportunities are available. Airfare and lodging will be paid for by GSS.

Summer Research Experience for Undergraduate Students

Tuesday, May 31, 2022 – Saturday, August 6, 2022

The 2022 program is a ten-week undergraduate internship where students work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, receive core training, and gain hands-on research experience with emerging interface technologies.

Program Details:

Interns will travel to the ISU campus on Tuesday, May 31, and will travel home on Saturday, August 6
$5,000 stipend for the summer
Free on-campus apartment housing
Travel allowance
Training and hands-on experience will include classroom lectures, activities, a journal club, and get-to-know-faculty seminars
Food allowance, which will include dining dollars to be used in the ISU cafeteria or other food vendors on campus, in addition to several meals being provided by the program
