The Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center conducts research studies with healthy older adults, adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s disease, and adults with Down Syndrome who are at risk for Alzheimer’s disease. This position will involve coordinating and supporting assigned research studies with human participants, including drug studies.

We are seeking exceptional candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in biological or psychological science (or related field) and are interested in a full-time, entry clinical science professional position. The Johnson Laboratory here at the University of Colorado is actively seeking ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� undergraduate students to gain research experience and get PAID ($2,000-3,000) this summer. We are looking for independent, self-motivated undergraduate students who are passionate about pursuing research in aquatic ecology and conservation to apply for funding provided by UROP at ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��.

Currently we are exploring the following three projects for summer UROP positions:

1. Diversity and Disease (FIELD): this project aims to understand how interactions among species within an aquatic community collectively influence pathogen transmission and disease risk. Students interested in this position will be station out in the Bay Area of California from May-mid August. Students will work as part of our amphibian field team in which they will use field and lab techniques (dip nets, seines, visual surveys, pathogen swabbing, snail dissection, data entry) to monitor and assess amphibian populations.

2. Bd vaccine development (FIELD): this project aims to understand if Bd resistance be induced in wild populations of hosts within an aquatic community. Students interested in this position will be station out in the Bay Area of California from May-mid August. Students will work as part of our amphibian field team in the first half of the summer in which they will use field and lab techniques (dip nets, seines, visual surveys, pathogen swabbing, snail dissection, data entry) to monitor and assess amphibian populations. The second part of the summer will primarily focus on assisting a Phd candidate in assess Bd in experimental ponds by swabbing larval and adult amphibians.

3. Parasite disease in amphibians (LAB): this project aims to understand how interactions among species within an aquatic community collectively influence pathogen transmission and disease risk. Students interested in this position will be working in the Johnson Laboratory here at CU starting in May through beginning of August. Students will work as part of our amphibian necropsy and husbandry team in which they will dissect various amphibians to test for various pathogens—like the trematode that causes frogs to grow multiple legs!

I'm writing to you today from the University of Colorado School of Medicine with information about some of our upcoming pre-med/pre-health Wilderness Medicine courses.

Our classes are taught by University of Colorado School of Medicine faculty and include:

lectures, unique labs, and simulations
health professions admissions and career advice from involved faculty and physicians
opportunities to earn Wilderness First Responder, CPR and Stop the Bleed certificates
possibility to shadow physicians (as well as other clinicians)
Participation in adventure activities such as hiking, rock climbing, campfires, whitewater rafting, natural history tours, swimming and more.

Through the University of Colorado Cancer Center's Cancer Research Experience for Undergraduates (CREU), every summer 23 college undergraduate students are given the opportunity to spend ten weeks in our laboratories at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The goal of the program is to engage scientific curiosity in the next generation of scientists, challenging qualified college undergraduates to consider a cancer-related career in the future.

Applications are typically due in January/February.

Fellowships are open to:

Currently enrolled college undergraduates – including seniors
Minority and disadvantaged students are encouraged to apply
You must be a US citizen to apply

What to know about the Cancer Research Experience for Undergraduates:

All activities are subject to whether the campus is under Covid restrictions or not.
Fellows work full-time for approximately ten weeks during the summer from June 1 – August 4, 2022.
Fellows may not combine their research work with other significant work commitments or daytime class work.
Stipends are paid in monthly installments through direct deposit as fellows complete their program requirements.
A housing allowance may be provided on an as-needed basis. Housing options will be sent to accepted trainees. A Facebook page of admitted students will be set up in the Spring. You may also find a roommate there.
Fellows must commit to completing program requirements, including attending orientation and weekly lectures and events, writing a project proposal, and presenting a final poster at the poster session. Students who cannot attend the poster session are required to write a final paper.

Vaccine Distribution Volunteers

��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� has begun to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from the state of Colorado. These vaccines will be distributed and offered to members of the CU community following state phases of eligibility. . The Pandemic Response Office is in need of volunteers to assist at vaccine sites. Please review the volunteer role description below prior to signing up:

Vaccine Clinic Volunteer

Vaccine Clinic volunteers will be assisting with wayfinding and directional support in and around the designated vaccination site. They will be available to assist scheduled vaccine recipients, to answer questions about the process and to direct people where to go to receive the vaccine. In addition, volunteers may be asked to perform tasks as needed such as reviewing forms for completion, providing instructions, and disinfecting clipboards and pens (gloves provided).

Due to the nature of the role, volunteers will be expected to move around to direct others to relevant areas of the vaccine distribution area. The role might also include outdoor elements. Since the weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, we encourage volunteers to dress for cold weather and be prepared for any weather conditions that may arise.

Health and Safety

Due to health and safety guidelines for campus, all volunteer roles for open only to current CU students, staff and faculty.

We will follow all university and Boulder County health and safety protocols:

Adhere to physical distancing and stay 6 feet apart
Face covering required
Wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer frequently
Stay home if you are sick

Volunteers must provide their own face mask. Gloves will be provided at the site upon request.

Volunteer Waiver
Please read and review the volunteer waiver below. All volunteers, except for CU Staff and Faculty volunteering as part of their work hours, will need to agree to the volunteer waiver prior to their shift.

Confidentiality Agreement
Please review the attached confidentiality agreement. You and print one out and bring a signed copy with you to your volunteer shift or sign an agreement in person at the start of your shift.

All volunteer shifts are subject to change or cancellation based on vaccine supply availability. We will try to provide 24 hours’ notice on all cancelled volunteer shifts.

Role Description

The Opportunity

The Health Physics Intern, internally known as Facility Technician III, will assist the Radiation Program Manager in managing the radiation control program at the Clean Harbors Deer Trail Facility.

The Clean Harbors Deer Trail Facility is sited on the high plains of eastern Colorado in a remote location. The local area is used primarily for cattle grazing and dry-land farming. The facility is a large waste treatment and landfill disposal operation. Dirt and dust are a fact of life at Deer Trail and can pose a special challenge to operations. All Deer Trail workers are radiation workers and may be exposed to ionizing radiation. All Deer Trail workers must be trained per OSHA Hazwoper 40-hour requirements. Most Deer Trail workers may need to be able to wear respiratory protective equipment.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Radiation Program Manager to:

· Knowledge of equipment used in health physics applications,

· Knowledge and experience in radiation hazards and their impact on human health and the environment,

· Ability to handle emergency situations and excellent problem-solving skills,

· Strong oral and written communication skills,

· Ability to work in teams that may include other science professionals,

· Excellent analytical skills,

· Ability to handle multiple projects,

· Ability to assess potential risks and recommend essential remedial measures,

· Knowledge of technical and scientific aspects of radiation
