SEEDS Partnerships For Undergraduate Research (SPUR) Fellowship

The SPUR Fellowship is the highest honor in the SEEDS program, and fellows are encouraged to be the outstanding leaders in the future of ESA. The award supports the undergraduate student in designing and conducting an ecology research project of interest. SEEDS has established partnerships with field stations and mentors to offer exciting summer opportunities that will be tailored to meet your interests, career objectives and growth as a scientist. For most opportunities, no prior research experiences is necessary.

The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at UCSC exposes early-career college students to the field of environmental conservation through field research, leadership and professional training.

Each year, we select 20 students from around the U.S. and its territories to participate in our two-year conservation leadership program. Our students represent a diverse spectrum of cultures and backgrounds, which helps to cultivate an inclusive and rewarding experience.

Year 1:

Eight-week, paid, intensive summer course integrating conservation design, leadership and research experiences while traveling with a close group of peers and mentors

Year 2:

Eight-week, paid, intensive summer internship with a conservation organization or agency

Scholar Benefits

Scholars receive a $4400 stipend each summer

2021 Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve Summer Internships and Technician Positions

Do you want to work at one of the top ecological research stations in the world? Do you want to gain firsthand experience in some of the longest and most well-known experiments in ecology? This is the place for you!

The Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve of the University of Minnesota has opportunities for summer research Internships, field research supervisors, and spring field technician positions. These positions are not mutually exclusive and applicants can apply for any open positions.

On-site dormitory housing is available for rent for all positions at Cedar Creek.

Community and Ecosystem Ecology Internships

We have several opportunities for students to work as plant community ecology interns and a few opportunities for research field supervisors. Most positions run from June through August, but some interns are needed as early as March and some are needed through October. Your educational institution may be able to approve this internship, with an appropriate independent project, for any field biology requirement of your major. As a research intern, you will contribute to ongoing field experiments, have the opportunity to initiate individual research, attend scientific presentations, and interact with professors, post-docs, and graduate students. If you are an undergraduate or a newly graduated student with a background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, botany, environmental education, or related field we encourage you to apply.

Genomics Summer Research for Minorities (GSRM) Internship

The Genomics Summer Research for Minorities (GSRM) internship provides a ten-week summer research program for undergraduate students interested in genomics research, personalized medicine and biosciences. The GSRM is funded by an NIH Research Education Program (R25) and supported by the University of Utah Department of Pediatrics. The paid internship provides students with placement in world-class genomics research groups, tailored mentorship, professional development workshops and access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Interns have the opportunity to interact with a thriving community of scientists, physicians and mentors that recognize the need to promote diversity in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) workforce.

Internship Dates: June 2, 2021 to August 6, 2021

Schedule

Time spent performing research and attending educational, networking and career building professional activities is approximately 40 hours per week.

Compensation

Each GSRM position is considered employment. Completion of work hours and assignments are required to receive up to $5,500 for the summer.
Housing on the University of Utah campus will be provided.
Non-local participants will receive travel support.

Eligibility

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a member of an underrepresented minority group (as defined by the National Institutes of Health). We particularly encourage the participation of women, individuals from underrepresented and disadvantaged minority groups, and individuals with disabilities. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year before joining our GSRM program.

The UNM Sevilleta Field Station is seeking applicants for Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). The application will be open on December 1st, 2020. We offer paid internships in three California locations - South San Francisco (our headquarters), Vacaville, and Oceanside - as well as in Hillsboro, Oregon. Applicants must have completed at least one year of university to be considered for an internship or co-op.
We accept applications from international students, though visa sponsorship support varies by position and department.
All internships and co-ops are paid, so you must be legally authorized to work in the United States during the entire length of the internship or co-op.
To qualify for the internship, you must be within two years of your last degree attained.

Timeline

Our summer intern job postings generally begin in November of the previous year and run through the end of March. Selections for internships vary by position, but are generally made during January through April. Although we do hire interns throughout the whole year, the majority of our interns are hired during the summer. Our interns may qualify and are given strong consideration for full-time opportunities, including rotation programs.
