John EdemÌýEcklu, PhD

John Edem Ecklu is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Mortenson Center for Global Engineering & Resilience, where his research applies climate financing to address water insecurity. His work includes assessing climate-financed safe water programs in East Africa, with a focus on how climate finance can sustain access to safe drinking water.

He earned his BS in Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, and later completed both his MS and PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Prior to graduate school, John worked for four years in the water and sanitation sector as a Project Engineer at TREND Group, a WASH consultancy firm in Ghana. There, he collaborated with local agencies and international organizations such as UNICEF on projects ranging from designing and supervising sustainable WASH infrastructure in schools to supporting rural communities in increasing sanitation coverage.

In addition to his academic role, John is an Environmental Engineer with Virridy, where he helps lead climate finance projects across Africa. His professional and academic work is driven by a passion for providing innovative WASH solutions that extend beyond infrastructure provision to achieve lasting impact in low-income regions.
Outside of work, John enjoys cycling and spending time outdoors.
