Six chemical and biological engineering students earn major NSF fellowships

Four University of Colorado Boulder PhD students in biological engineering, one PhD student in chemical engineering, along with an undergraduate student in chemical and biological engineering, have received 2026 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships—a prestigious award that recognizes and supports outstanding students across a wide range of science-related disciplines.Ìý

The department's recipients account for 15% of the entire university's GRFP awards.

In addition, one current ChBE undergraduate student received an honorable mention and an additional three ChBE former students also received 2026 GRFP awards.

These major awards honor and support outstanding graduate students from across the country in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees. Fellows receive a three-year annual stipend of $37,000 and full coverage of tuition, fees and insurance, along with opportunities for international research and professional development.
