Teaching Professor Emeritus deGrazia

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is launching a new crowdfunding effort for a scholarship in honor of Teaching Professor Emeritus Janet deGrazia, who retired in 2019. Professor deGrazia was recently diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer, prompting the department to pursue this scholarship to honor her legacy.

Donate to the ChBE Scholarship Fund

Professor deGrazia sees this scholarship as an opportunity to help future students achieve their full potential in chemical and biological engineering. This merit-based scholarship fund will support undergraduates attending the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.

DeGrazia served as an instructor at the department from 2002 to 2019, educating and mentoring an entire generation of chemical and biological engineers. During her time here, she consistently earned overwhelmingly positive feedback from her students and won numerous awards.

DeGrazia also helped found the LearnChemE online instructional website, for which she recorded hundreds of instructional videos. She authored 10 academic and conference papers and developed chemical engineering courses for students of all ages. She began her career here at ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��, earning her PhD in chemical engineering in 1998.

Alumni and friends of the department are encouraged to consider donating to this endowed scholarship, which will help support future undergraduate chemical and biological engineers.

This spring, the University of Colorado Boulder created a new level of distinction for instructional faculty. This new level is recognized by the title of "teaching professor." This honor is reserved for individuals who have held the rank of senior instructor for at least three years and have a record of distinction in teaching, service and leadership.

Professors John Falconer and Will Medlin, Senior Instructor Janet deGrazia, and former Senior Researcher Garret Nicodemus are the recipients of the 2015 AIChE Himmelblau Award.

The David Himmelblau Award for Innovations in Computer-Based Chemical Engineering Education recognizes an individual or group making new and novel contributions to computer aids for chemical engineering education. The award includes a cash prize and will be presented at the CAST Division dinner at the November AIChE National Meeting in Salt Lake City.
