奥贸颈苍颈濒补: A Mural of Silence and Learning

Danielle SeeWalker

On March 11, 蜜桃传媒破解版下载 unveiled a new mural,听奥贸颈苍颈濒补: In Silence We Learn, on the second floor of the听Miramontes Baca Education Building. The mural is an original work created as part of a collaboration between CU鈥檚 School of Education and the student-led听Cultural Events Board (CEB).

Its title,听奥贸颈苍颈濒补 鈥 a Lakota word meaning 鈥渟ilence鈥 鈥 reflects one of the first Lakota values passed down within the culture, said the mural鈥檚 creator,听, a Hunkpapa Lakota artist from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.听

鈥淲e sit in silence as we listen to the land, the wind and the stars as they teach us. We learn to listen before we respond and speak,鈥 SeeWalker said.听

The painting includes scenes of mentorship, colorful hummingbirds, stars and two buffaloes.听

Naisha Naik (BusAna鈥28) helped lead the project as a member of the CEB, which provides students with opportunities to broaden their knowledge on topics such as diversity and social awareness.听

鈥淗aving this mural in the School of Education is especially meaningful. It serves as a reminder that education is not just about books and classrooms, but also about the stories, history and knowledge of our communities,鈥 Naik told the School of Education.
