AI Ethics Specialization Exception | Summer 2 Session 2026
The third course in the AI Ethics specialization, a breadth requirement, will be available in the Fall 1 session of 2026. In order to provide the opportunity for students to complete the degree by August 2026, the following exception will be available to admitted students in the MS-AI degree for the Summer 2 session only. The release of the second and third courses in this specialization are listed below.Ìý
Artificial Intelligence Ethics Specialization Ìý(3 credits)Ìý
- CSCA 5204: Current Issues in Ethics and AI Ìý(1 credit) (Available Fall 2, 2025)
- CSCA 5274: AI Regulation (1 credit) (Available Summer 2, 2026)
- CSCA 5284: AI and the Future of Society (1 credit) (Available Fall 1, 2026)
If you are in a position to complete your MS-AI degree by the Summer 2 session, 2026 we encourage you to take advantage of this exception. Please read the information below carefully and complete the Exception Form below if you will be using this exception for the Summer 2 session.Ìý
Overview of the Exception:
Admitted MS-AI students may use this form to allow for the use of an elective course from the MS-AI curriculum to satisfy the third course in the AI Ethics specialization in the Breadth requirements for the MS-AI degree during the Summer 2 session, only.
PLEASE NOTE:Ìý
- This exception is is only available to currently admitted students in the MS-AI program.
- Students must have completed or be enrolled for credit in the first 2 courses of the AI Ethics specialization, along with this course for substitution. It cannot be completed in a following session.Ìý
- To substitute the third course in the specialization, students may select an elective from the MS-AI curriculum that they are NOT already using in their electives requirements. For example, students cannot use an elective that they have already completed that they will use to complete an elective specialization.Ìý
- Students must earn at least a B grade in this elective course substitution because it will be a Breadth course requirement.Ìý
- Students may NOT use an outside elective for this substitution.
- This exception will only be available for the Summer 2 session, 2026. The third course of the AI Ethics specialization will be available in Fall 1 session, 2026.
- If you are not close to completing your MS-AI degree requirements, and you will be continuing in the 2026-2027 academic year, we advise you to wait for the third AI Ethics course to become available.
All exception forms will be reviewed by the program and we will contact students with questions, concerns, and/or approval next steps.Ìý
