This issue, in Professor Merritt's own words, "speaks to a broader discourse from recent publications on Black Europeans combined with a focus on feminist approaches that circulate within and through expressions of Afropean identity. [...] The preoccupation with national borders and perceived concepts of belonging and, by extension, citizenship is precisely one point that the development of the expression “Afropean” seeks to push back against."��
