Orrie Gartner serves as ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ÆÆ½â°æÏÂÔØ Interim Vice Chancellor for IT, following the retirement of Marin Stanek in May 2026. As Interim Vice Chancellor for IT, Orrie supports the rapidly evolving IT needs of the campus, which includes over 38,000 students and roughly 10,000 faculty and staff who support those students, as well as the larger academic and research mission of the campus.

Orrie also oversees the Infrastructure, Engineering and Enterprise Services division, delivering the digital infrastructure and associated support that enables interactions with technology to be a seamless and reliable experience. This requires partnering and orchestrating a close collaboration based on trust with campus stakeholders, including distributed IT, to ensure the delivery of high-value IT provided services evolve to meet their ever-changing needs.

Orrie Gartner earned his B.S. in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995 and held various system administration and computer security related positions in both the federal government and private sector before returning to the University of Colorado in 2001 to earn his M.S. in Telecommunications. Upon returning, he led a managed services team providing support for custom IT environments used both in research and instruction, all while ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. In February 2013, thisÌýmanaged servicesÌýteam was brought into theÌýOffice of Information Technology, and Orrie formed the Shared Infrastructure Services (SIS) group responsible for campus critical infrastructure, eventually leading to his currentÌýrole.

When his attention is not on IT, Orrie leads an organization dedicated to education and advocacy for less toxic living for those with chemical sensitivities. He and can often be found off hours in the kitchen teaching macrobiotic cooking classes or on the open road riding a motorcycle.

Senior Vice Chancellor for Operations, Janel Forde, has launched a national search for the next Vice Chancellor of IT, with an aim of naming a new vice chancellor prior to the fall 2026 semester. Orrie is not applying for the position.
