JILA and NIST Fellows Jun Ye and Judah Levine have been awarded Gold and Silver Medals听
Every year the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Department of Commerce (DOC) grant honor awards in the form of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals. According to the DOC website: 鈥渢he Gold and Silver Medals are the highest and second highest honor granted by the Secretary for distinguished and exceptional performance.鈥 Two of JILA鈥檚 Fellows, Jun Ye, and Judah Levine, have been awarded these medals for the . Ye was awarded a Gold Medal in Scientific/Engineering Achievement and was cited for: 鈥渢he most precise measurement of the gravitational redshift using optical atomic clocks, further confirming Einstein鈥檚 Theory of General Relativity.鈥 Similarly, Judah Levine was awarded a Silver Medal for Scientific/Engineering Achievement as part of a larger group cited for 鈥渟trengthening the resilience of position, navigation, and timing infrastructure and services on which global commerce and national security.鈥 Both Ye and Levine study atomic clocks and their importance in timekeeping.
