Frogs, Toads, and Newts, Oh My!

necropsy group 26

This past week, the amphibian necropsy team wrapped up a very busy summer. Between our two technicians and four undergraduates, we dissected 1900 amphibians, including Pacific tree frogs (Pseudacris regilla), western toads (Bufo boreas), California newts (Taricha torosa), and rough-skinned newts (T. granulosa). The spread of Ribeiroia ondatrae continues, with it being found at 40 sites in the Bay Area. There were also over 100 amphibians with malformations, including several newts, among which malformations are rare. A huge thanks to the necropsy team for all of their hard work during this toad-ally amazing summer!
