NIH Policy Updates
NIH recently released several 听that impact NIH sponsored projects. OCG and Research Security & Integrity are further reviewing these policies and planning, as needed, for process changes. The revised or new policies include:
Revision: NIH Policy and Guidelines on the Inclusion of Women and Minorities as Subjects in Clinical Research, effective 8/17/25
Impact:
- This policy revises NIH Policy and Guidelines on the Inclusion of Women and Minorities as Subjects in Clinical Research.
- Revisions are primarily focused on using 鈥渟ex鈥 instead of 鈥渟ex/gender鈥 and updating race and/or ethnicity information to align with the Office of Management and Budget鈥檚 Statistical Policy Directive No. 15.
- PIs involved in clinical research are encouraged to review the updated guidelines听and requirements to refer to 鈥渟ex鈥 (two biological sexes) and not gender.
New: AI and Application Limit, effective 9/25/25
Impact:
- NIH will not consider applications that are substantially developed by AI or that contain sections substantially developed by AI to be original ideas of applicants.
- If substantial use of AI is identified post award, NIH may refer the matter to the Office of Research Integrity.
- NIH will limit number of applications from a single PI to six per calendar year.
- NIH has not defined substantial. Calendar year and applicable application types defined in related .
- The Council on Government Relations (COGR) has requested additional information from NIH.
- To date in 2024 and 2025, the most applications submitted by one 蜜桃传媒破解版下载 PI in one calendar year (January-December) is five.

New: Training on Other Support Documents, effective 10/1/25
Impact:
- Senior/Key Personnel will be required to take training on disclosure requirements for the NIH Other Support document.
- Timing and frequency of this training requirement are unclear, but the notice indicates it will be required at the Just-in-Time (JIT) phase.
- OCG is working on how to fulfill this requirement. More information for PIs to follow.
