The Magnitude of Woman is a series of collages reimagining classical female forms as monumental goddesses rather than passive objects or idealized figures, reclaiming agency and power through scale and placement within contemporary landscapes.

Shea Ackman is a University of Colorado Boulder student majoring in Media Production and Art Practices. As a multidisciplinary artist, she works in drawing, painting, photography, and media design. Her studies at the Florence University of the Arts and the Paris College of Art deepened her connection with art history and classical forms, greatly shaping her artistic approach. Much of her visual work is influenced by her photography, which depicts her travels and the beauty of human experience. Her broader artistic practice continues this documentation of humanity and examines historical narratives through contemporary reinterpretations that question myth, power, and representation.

The Magnitude of Woman is composed of photographs captured during my travels through Italy and France. In documenting sculptures, paintings, and landscapes, I blended classical female figures into contemporary environments, making them larger-than-life within these spaces. Through scale and placement, they become powerful, goddess-like presences rather than figures confined by their original representations. For example, in one image, I reimagine the myth of Leda and Zeus. Instead of continuing a story of rape and violence, Leda stands monumental in the landscape, while a dead swan (Zeus) lies in the lower corner, shifting the power dynamic entirely. By reworking these myths and images, the project explores how historical depictions of women can be challenged and transformed through contemporary reframing.
