This mixed media piece weaves together hand-drawn sequences, self-shot footage, and animation experiments compiled throughout my undergraduate years. By layering and recombining past work into a single moving space, it explores how creative growth accumulates over time, forming an evolving archive of process and transformation.

Aly Laurain is graduating from ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ in Spring 2026 with a major in Media Production and a minor in Art Practices, and is excited to enter the field of live performance visuals. Her work spans 2D psychedelic animation, live projection-mapped art, and social impact visual media. She is drawn to the surreal logic of the subconscious, using animation as a fluid and open structure for experimentation across multiple mediums. Previous experience includes creating visual content for End Overdose’s social media platforms, designing immersive projection-based visual environments, and producing experimental motion-based work that blends art, technology, and storytelling.

What Remains Is Still Becoming

This is a mixed media animation weaving together hand-drawn animation and self-shot footage with movement and animation experiments compiled throughout my undergraduate years. This process of layering and recombining past work mirrors the way my creative practice has developed over time, where earlier experiments are not left behind but continuously reworked and reinterpreted. By bringing these fragments together into a single animated space, the piece reflects on how creative growth accumulates rather than replaces what came before. As the animation unfolds, it becomes less about documenting finished work and more about observing it in motion. This shifting archive reflects a larger idea of identity as something unstable and continuously forming. As my work expands, I also recognize the quiet loss of earlier, smaller versions of myself, and the ways growth requires letting those scales of understanding fall away. Though the animation reaches its conclusion, both the work and my development as an artist continue in motion, shaped by time, learning, and transformation.Ìý
