It has been startlingly successful for supervised machine learning on complex end-to-end NLP tasks such as image captioning or machine translation, but with less spectacular progress in semi-supervised and unsupervised learning. This talk reviews how the field has changed over the last few years, what has stayed the same, and speculates on the impact of deep learning for the larger science of language. |
