Buffs baseball team takes down Mines
Colorado club baseball put together a complete performance Wednesday night, taking down Colorado School of Mines 7–3 behind timely hitting and a strong outing from the pitching staff.
The Buffs jumped ahead early and never let Mines fully settle in, using disciplined at-bats, pressure on the bases and efficient pitching to control the game from start to finish.
Offense sets the tone
Colorado finished the night with seven runs on nine hits, drawing seven walks and consistently creating traffic on the basepaths. The Buffs’ lineup stayed aggressive while still showing patience, forcing Mines pitchers to work deep into counts.
Cole Wayne was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, setting the tone from the top of the order. Judson Stafford added a big night as well, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Colorado spread the production throughout the lineup. Elon Schwartz went 2-for-3, scored two runs and reached base multiple times, while Richie Biborosch III chipped in a hit and scored a run. The Buffs also took advantage of opportunities without hits—driving in runs via walks and productive outs to keep the scoreboard moving.
Pitching holds Mines in check
On the mound, Colorado leaned on a strong two-man effort to shut the door on Mines. Chase Ambuehl earned the win, tossing 4.0 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out six and walking just one. He consistently worked ahead in counts and limited hard contact.
Wesley Freed came on in relief and closed things out, throwing 2.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out three. The Buffs’ pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts while allowing just four hits on the night, keeping Mines from mounting any sustained rallies.
Complete team win
Defensively, Colorado played clean baseball, backing up its pitchers with solid fielding and smart decision-making. When Mines did manage to get runners on, the Buffs responded with timely strikeouts and routine outs to escape trouble.
The combination of patient offense and efficient pitching allowed Colorado to play from ahead all night—a formula that paid off as the Buffs closed out a convincing rivalry win.
Looking ahead
The 7–3 victory over Mines highlights what Colorado is capable of when all phases click. With contributions throughout the lineup and strong performances on the mound, the Buffs showed depth, discipline and composure—traits that will be crucial as the season continues.
