Women's lacrosse takes down rival Colorado State

women's lacrosse vs. DU

The University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team defended Kittredge Field on Saturday afternoon, pulling away late to earn a 12–7 win over in-state rival Colorado State in regular season action.

While the game stayed tight early, Colorado’s depth and offensive balance proved to be the difference, especially in the second half as the Buffs steadily built separation and closed out the rivalry matchup.

Second-half surge seals it

After a back-and-forth opening stretch, Colorado found its rhythm offensively and began to string together quality possessions. The Buffs capitalized on CSU defensive breakdowns and made the most of their scoring chances, finishing with 12 goals from multiple contributors.

Sydney Schutzman and Livia Klanian led the charge, each recording four goals to pace the Colorado attack. Their ability to create space and finish consistently helped Colorado maintain control when momentum was up for grabs. Bella Lane added a goal and an assist, while Brooke Miller, Ana Jimenez and Hattie Sloane also found the back of the net, showcasing the Buffs’ balanced scoring effort.

Colorado State made a push late, scoring seven times and forcing Colorado to stay locked in defensively. Despite the surge, the Buffs responded with timely stops and smart possession play to keep CSU from getting any closer down the stretch.

Balanced effort across the field

Beyond the scoring column, Colorado benefited from contributions all over the roster. The Buffs won key ground balls, moved the ball efficiently on offense and stayed disciplined defensively to limit CSU’s chances early in the game.

The rivalry atmosphere added extra energy to the matchup, but Colorado remained composed throughout, executing in crucial moments and preventing Colorado State from fully swinging momentum.

Looking ahead

The win adds another solid result to Colorado’s regular season résumé and keeps the Buffs moving in the right direction as conference play continues. With balanced scoring and growing confidence, Colorado showed it can manage rivalry pressure while still playing its game.

As the season pushes forward, performances like Saturday’s will be key as the Buffs look to build consistency and sharpen execution heading into the heart of the schedule.
