Description of Event: Enjoy performances of short stories by young women (and allies) of the world they want-- a world of care, justice, growth, and wonder. Each storyteller will don a cape that imbues their story with magic, mystery, invisibility, or superpowers. Escape for a time from the world created from the imaginations of dominators and oppressors who have caused harm to our Earth and those who live on it. Dressed for imagination, we will author a new narrative that honors and sustains life and eco-systems. An equitable, survivable, and thrive-able world is possible, but it needs to be imagined into being. Conversation to follow on how to facilitate activities with your community to activate their imaginations.

Join us for a free special event at Fiske Planetarium at 2:00 pm on April 23, 2022. CU student actors will present three scenes from the Department of Theatre and Dance Roe Green production They Promised Her the Moon by Laurel Ollstein, against the backdrop of the planetarium dome. They Promised Her the Moon tells the true story of aviator Jerrie Cobb and the Mercury 13: a group of women who underwent rigorous psychological and physical astronaut training but were ultimately denied entry into the space program based on their sex.

Associate Professor Tamara Meneghini directs and will moderate a conversation to follow about women in space with the playwright Laurel Ollstein, members of the cast, and Professor of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences Frances "Fran" Bagenal.

This event is made possible with the generous support of donor Roe Green through the Roe Green Visiting Artist fund and additional support from ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��'s Nature, Environment, Science & Technology (NEST) Studio for the Arts, a network of faculty, students, centers and campus units that combine artistic practice and scientific research to explore our common and disparate ways of observing, recording, experimenting and knowing.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to announce that Jennifer Hubbard will be the 2014- 2015 Roe Green Visiting Theatre Artist, directing Legacy of Light by Karen Zacarias.

Hubbard is a professional director, actor and teacher and is currently a visiting professor at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A former nominee for the Theatre Communications Group Alan Schneider Award for Directing, she founded the Theatre for Public Works. Through that project she created River of Life, a public-theater event in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 and O Columbia, in honor of space-shuttle crew members who lost their lives February 1, 2003.

Legacy of Light, a story about two women living centuries apart, is a brilliant and emotive comedy that deals with both science and motherhood as though they are tightly entwined. Physicist Emilie du Chatelet and astrophysicist Olivia are tied together through both their scientific work and the conception of a child.

The show will run Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 29- Nov. 2 in The Loft theater, University Theatre Building.
