Chancellor DiStefano: Leadership update on implementation of 8 immediate actions for change

Ҵýƽ Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced at his University ExecutiveLeadership Team (UELT) meeting that he has asked Vice Chancellor forDiversity, Equity and Community Engagement Bob Boswell to lead theimplementation of theeight immediate actions for change announced onJune 18to improve anti-racism, diversity, inclusion and equity efforts oncampus. To lead this implementation and multi-department effort, thechancellor has given Boswell additional responsibility and the authority toadvance Ҵýƽ actions to achieve these goals.

“In order to be successful, we must make significant progress on these eightactions for change,” DiStefano said. “Bob will promptly inform me, ProvostMoore and Interim Chief Operating Officer O’Rourke of any barriers tomeeting these goals. I will also take my own steps to implement culturechange, including setting expectations and holding my cabinet accountablefor our progress toward these goals.”

In addition to regular updates to the campus community, DiStefanorequested an update from Boswell by Aug. 21, 2020, on the actions,including recommendations on when and where the campus leadership teamcan work to identify and prioritize the resources needed to accelerate andadvance these efforts.

Boswell said he gladly accepts the new responsibilities and would act quicklyon them.

“I share the chancellor’s commitment to immediate action and to theaccountability for results,” Boswell said. “I will update the campus later todayon next steps for the eight immediate actions and, moving ahead, willprovide regular updates on our progress.”

And, Boswell continued, the work ahead will be tangible and results-driven.

“Everything we do for the remainder of the summer, throughout theacademic year and beyond that, will be driven by actions, not words, and bya shared goal of accelerating the transformation of our campus culture,”Boswell said.
