ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ÆÆ½â°æÏÂÔØ ranked highly in a number of subject areas, including five in the top 10 in the nation, in the latest edition of the World University Rankings by Subject from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

The highest rankings were in the subject areas geology and geophysics, in which ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ÆÆ½â°æÏÂÔØ ranked No. 8 in the world and No. 5 in the nation for both (geology tied). ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ÆÆ½â°æÏÂÔØ ranked just outside the top 10 in the world coming in at No. 11 in earth and marine sciences, while taking the No. 8 position nationally. Two other ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ÆÆ½â°æÏÂÔØ subject areas were ranked in the top 10 nationally: engineering—mineral and mining (No. 7 nationally) and geography (tied No. 8 nationally).Ìý

Rounding out the top 25 in the nation were archaeology (tied No. 14), physics & astronomy (No. 21), environmental sciences (tied No. 21), sports-related subjects (No. 24), engineering—civil and structural (No. 24), and the broad subject area of natural sciences (tied No. 22). All rank in the top 150 in the world.

The 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject provides independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 18,300 university programs at 1,700 universities around the world, across 55 academic disciplines. The QS rankings are based on surveys of reputation in the subject area among academics and recruiters of graduates, and on citations to research articles.Ìý
