Chancellor Justin Schwartz invites nominations for the 2026 Chancellor’s Employee of the Year Award. This annual award is presented to ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� staff in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional job performance and distinguished contributions to the campus community. Award criteria include job performance, leadership, service and interpersonal skills.

The award includes a prize of $5,000 (after tax) and a commemorative gift. The awards will be presented at a ceremony hosted by the chancellor in January.

Eligibility

All eligible ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� classified and university staff may be nominated for this award.
Nominees must have been employed by ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� for at least three years by the nomination deadline and must not have received any corrective and/or disciplinary actions within the last five years.
Employees may only receive this award once during their campus career.
University officers (i.e, deans, associate vice chancellors and above) are not eligible for this award, and nominations will not be considered.

Nomination information

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the campus community (staff, faculty or student) who has firsthand knowledge about the nominee. Nominations should be submitted using the online nomination form.

Each nominee should have:

One primary nomination submission.
Two additional supporting submissions by individuals other than the primary nominator.
At least one of the submissions must be from the nominee’s direct supervisor.

Nominations should address and provide specific examples of the following criteria:

Outstanding job performance

Demonstrates consistently outstanding performance in all areas of their job
Incorporates ethical practices and behaviors in all areas of their job

Exemplifies inspired leadership

Leads with integrity and in a way that contributes constructively to the department or campus’ mission
Identifies and addresses challenges that arise in an honest, thoughtful, and ethical manner
Works to advance diversity, equity and inclusion practices

Extraordinary service

Supports the unit, department, college, campus or surrounding community in unique ways that go beyond the employee’s job responsibilities

Exceptional interpersonal skills

Supports co-workers
Improves department/division/unit morale
Provides outstanding customer service
Consistently exhibits a positive attitude

Submission process

To submit a nomination or supporting submission, please complete the electronic nomination form. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

No more than three total submissions will be accepted for each nominee.
Submissions will not be accepted past the nomination deadline.
Awardees are expected to be notified in December.

Each year, the Board of Regents, along with faculty members from each campus, award extraordinary individuals with honorary degrees, university medals and distinguished service awards.

Nomination rules

A person may not nominate themselves.
A current university employee may not be nominated.
A public official currently serving in office may not be nominated.
A public official may be nominated two years after completion of their term of office.
A regent may submit a nomination but must recuse themselves from commenting and voting on the nomination.

An honorary degree is the highest award the University of Colorado can bestow. It is the policy of the regents to award this degree in recognition of outstanding achievement in one or more of the following areas: intellectual contributions, university service, public service and/or philanthropy.

University medals are awarded in recognition of those persons whose achievements and contributions are particularly associated with the university.

Distinguished service awards are awarded in recognition of achievements and contributions particularly associated with the state and/or nation.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 1. Please visit the regents website for information on the Regent Awards nomination process and to complete the nomination form.

��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� is launching the new Community Belonging Awards, which will be given annually to honor and recognize people whose everyday actions help others on campus feel seen, valued and supported.

Announced by Chancellor Justin Schwartz in his State of the Campus address, the Community Belonging Awards were established at the recommendation of CU Student Government, with the endorsement of the Boulder Faculty Assembly, Staff Council and the Graduate and Professional Student Government. Together, they reflect a shared commitment to recognizing the meaningful ways belonging is built across our campus community.

“Belonging shapes student success, employee well‑being and the strength of our entire community,” said Schwartz. “These awards recognize individuals whose leadership and care create lasting impact, not just for individuals, but for ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� as a whole.”

Each year, four awards will recognize individuals whose actions foster belonging at ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��, with each cohort including:

One undergraduate student.
One graduate or professional student.
One staff member.
One faculty member.

Each recipient will receive a one‑time $5,000 award, underscoring the university’s commitment to valuing and rewarding community‑building work. The inaugural awards will be presented in spring 2026.

Recipients will be selected based on demonstrated, meaningful impact on fostering belonging within a specific ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� community or across campus more broadly. This work may include efforts that:

Strengthen connection and inclusion.
Advance social justice.
Support one or more of ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

“By lifting up this work, the Community Belonging Awards shine a light on the practices that help our campus thrive,” Schwartz said. “If you know someone whose actions are making a real difference, or if you’re doing this work yourself, I encourage you to submit a nomination and help recognize the people who strengthen belonging at ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� every day.”

Know a student, staff member or faculty colleague whose actions help others feel welcomed and supported? Nominate them and help celebrate the community builders whose impact strengthens ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ��.

Who can be nominated?
Any current ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� undergraduate student, graduate or professional student, staff member or faculty member in good standing.

Who can nominate?
Any current ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� faculty member, staff member, or student. Self‑nominations are welcome.

What’s required?
A nomination statement describing the nominee’s impact.
Two letters of support from ��Ҵ�ý�ƽ�� community members other than the nominator.

Deadline extended: March 24

Award impact:
Four awards annually
$5,000 one‑time award per recipient
Campuswide recognition announced in April 2026
