The Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) at the University of Colorado Boulder is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Bioastronautics and Human Space Exploration focus area. This research focus may include areas of interest in space habitats and relevant systems engineering, environmental control and life support systems, in situ resource utilization (IRSU), space biology and associated payload engineering, mission integration and operations, human health and performance in aerospace environments, in-space manufacturing, particularly in the areas of biology, pharmaceuticals, materials and infrastructure, and assembly for exploration systems.

Traveling Trunks: STEM Engagement through Human Autonomy Teaming

Description: We are seeking a student researcher to assist with the development and implementation of “Traveling Trunks” which are hands-on, low-resource lesson kits designed to expand access to STEM education in Colorado. The five-module trunks will align with state curriculum standards and use Human-Autonomy Teaming (HAT) as a hook to increase student engagement in math and science. Activities will incorporate concepts such as robotics, trust in autonomous systems, and collaborative problem-solving and will be designed to be easy to administer and accessible for rural and underserved high school classrooms. The trunks will be deployed iteratively across rural districts, evaluated using pre/post assessments, and refined to maximize their educational impact and sustainability.

Required: Creativity; attention to detail; interest in STEM education; and ability to work in person. A background in math, engineering, education, psychology, biology, or another STEM-related field is preferred but not required.

Pay: $18–22 per hour

Commitment: Up to 10 hours per week
