All of our public programming is supported by the David Shneer Fund for Community Programming, Public Scholarship, and the Arts, honoring the memory of our beloved friend and colleague, Professor David Shneer z鈥漧.
2026 International Holocaust Remembrance Day Speaker

In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Jordanna Gessler, Chief Impact Officer of Holocaust Museum LA, explored the vital role museums as custodians of memory, truth, and human stories. This talk examined how museums collect, preserve, and interpret objects, not just as artifacts, but as living witnesses carrying layers of stories, and how culturally specific museums can engage audiences through the powerful narratives these objects hold.
Jordanna Gessler, granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, is Chief Impact Officer at Holocaust Museum LA where she oversees Education, Archives, Exhibits, and Visitor Services. With over 15 years of experience, Jordanna is a visionary leader with a proven track record in leading programs, research, and educational initiatives. Jordanna studied Holocaust history as an undergraduate at the University of Vermont and as a graduate student at the University of Haifa and holds a Leadership Certificate in Combating Antisemitism from Spertus Institute. She conducted research in Yad Vashem's Righteous Among the Nations Department and won the 2014 Yad Vashem Award for Research. Jordanna has written articles and presented internationally on topics including contemporary antisemitism, the role of Museums, and teaching empathy. Passionate about animal rights, public engagement, and education, she is an active member of several organizations, and acts as Board Chair of the Council for American Jewish Museums (CAJM).
