Zachary Frisch is the inaugural recipient of the Excellence in Service to the Department of Linguistics Award.
Emmalyn Nono, a triple major in Linguistics, Neuroscience, and Chinese, is one of 26 students across the College of Arts & Sciences to receive the 2026 Jacob Van Ek Scholars Award.

Congratulations to Linguistics Assistant Professor, Dr. Ambrocio Gutiérrez, along with Professor Doris Loayza from the Latin American and Latinx Studies Center and Dr. Leila Gómez from the Department of Women and Gender Studies, for receiving a SSCI Divisional Grant. Their interdisciplinary proposal, titled “Creating a trilingual thematic dictionary for Zapotec and Quechua,” aims to create a digital thematic dictionary to support the teaching of Central Quechua and Central Zapotec varieties.
Linguistics PhD student and Center for Teaching & Learning Lead Graduate Teacher (CTL), Kate Arnold-Murray, had a busy day on March 5th, 2026. Kate Arnold-Murray not only served as a panelist for the Spring Teaching and Learning Conference 2026, but she was also recognized at the "Best Should Teach" Ceremony.
Dr. Bhuvana Narasimhan has been selected as a recipient of this year's "The Best Should Teach" Gold Award at Ҵýƽ. The Best Should Teach Initiative strives to acknowledge excellence in teaching and academic leadership.
