SCHOOL YEAR: K-12 STEM Programs Instructor (Part-Time)
Do you love STEM and getting kids excited about science and engineering? CU Science Discovery is seeking current graduate students or post-docs to serve as part-time instructors for School and Teacher Programs. Instructors are key in connecting CU to the community through delivery of Classroom Programs and traveling STEM Workshops. Classroom Programs are typically 1-hour, hands-on experiences for K-12 students. Often, schools will request multiple sessions of the same program for different classes. Most of these programs, by volume are delivered at the elementary (K-5) level, so enthusiasm for and experience with working with younger children is important. Programs offered by Science Discovery span a variety of STEM topics, including, but not limited to:听
- Life Sciences (Biology 鈥 mammals, birds, fish, bats, marine biology, anatomy, etc.)
- Earth and Physical Sciences
- Geology
- Physics
- Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Computer Science
- Data Literacy
What we look for in part-time instructors:
- Experience working with young children, especially those in grades K-8.
- Experience as an educator in both formal and informal settings is preferred.
- Experience doing STEM outreach with young students is a plus.听
- Current graduate students with knowledge in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math) field. Particularly life sciences, earth science, and/or physical sciences.
- Flexible schedule to deliver programs during school time (8am-3pm) on weekdays when scheduled and occasionally on weekends.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable personal transportation (a car) to travel to schools and handle instructional materials and supplies.
- A willingness to try new things and have fun!
How it works:
- Core Science Discovery staff connect with schools to set up dates and times for programs.
- As far in advance as possible (~3+ weeks or so), SD staff will then contact part-time instructors for availability on these days. Instructors are then able to choose which programs fit their schedule.
- New instructors will participate in mandatory trainings, orientation and peer observations.
- Instructors are required to meet a minimum number of instructor assignments and peer observations each year.听
- Instructors can learn and deliver multiple different programs. Click here for a list current programs.
- Program schedules are not regular and are often unpredictable. Science Discovery cannot guarantee the number of programs instructors may be contacted to deliver, as schools reach out to us as needed. For reference, instructors can expect potentially 10-15 programs throughout the year.
- Instructors for classroom presentations are compensated $20-$32 per hour based upon experience.听
- Travel mileage is reimbursed according to University of Colorado Boulder policy and rates.
Though this position is posted as 鈥淥n-Campus鈥 student employment, you must have working rights to work off-site, as a majority of hours will be taking place at schools in the area and NOT on the 蜜桃传媒破解版下载 campus.
