Internships in Women & Gender Studies and Queer & Trans Studies

Every spring, the department offers students the chance to intern at various organizations across the Boulder and metro Denver area (and beyond!). Students may apply to internships that are related to Women & Gender Studies and/or Queer & Trans Studies. Some of the organizations we work with cross into both fields as well. An internship in Women & Gender Studies offers students the opportunity, outside of a classroom, to engage with and contribute to organizations who focus on issues, work, and advocacy around women, gender, and sexuality. An internship in Queer & Trans Studies, similarly, offers students the opportunity to engage with and contribute to organizations who focus on queer and trans issues, work, and advocacy outside of the classroom.Ìý

All internships are stipend supported. QTS internships are stipend supported by the generous support of the Thomas R. Stephens Internship Endowment Fund. As part of the internship, students will also enroll in a once a week, 3 credit course for the Spring 2027 semester (details TBA). Internships require approximately 10 hours per week of work, dedicated both to the class and to the internship itself. Preference goes to WGST/QTS majors and minors, but the application and internships are open to all, and anyone interested is encouraged to apply. Please note that you must be enrolled at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ the semester that the internship takes place. This opportunity is open to any ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½Æƽâ°æÏÂÔØ undergraduate student with a 2.0 GPA who have 30 total hours of credit.Ìý

Please note that this stipend appointment may affect your financial aid package. The total amount of financial aid you receive cannot exceed your total Cost of Attendance (COA). When financial aid exceeds the COA, aid must be reduced. When reducing aid, every effort is made to reduce the least favorable types of aid, such as loans, first. Some students may not see an impact, but those that normally receive or borrow aid up to their COA will see a reduction to loans or other aid to account for the funding

QTS Internship Organizations

Provided by the generous support of the Thomas R. Stephens Internship Endowment Fund

This is a stipend-supportedÌýinternship. Interns will receive payment upon completing their hours, paid in monthly installments from January through April. Students must apply for select stipend-supported internship opportunities. We expect the stipend amount to be approximately $2,400 for the semester.

BConnected Colorado focuses on hosting events, building connections, and creating spaces where LGBTQ+ folks thrive. Interns will have the opportunity to create local culture for Bi/Queer people through marketing, social media management, and community outreach.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in youth civic engagement and organizing work at a critical moment for our community. Interns will support , helping build materials and resources that give young LGBTQIA+ people the tools to understand and engage the civic process, whether that's showing up at the legislature, organizing in their school district, or making their voice heard at the local level.

The Political, Organizing, and PolicyÌýinternship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in LGBTQ+ advocacy and policy work at One Colorado, a leading organization dedicated to advancing equality in Colorado. Family Tree is a non-profit human services agency providing innovative, life-changing services designed to end child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness, rooted in the metro Denver community since 1976.Ìý

Senator Wallace’s office is hiring interns for the 2026 Legislative Session. This legislative internship is meant to be an educational experience for individuals interested in the State Legislature and public service. A strong candidate for this internship has the following: passion for public service, strong communication skills, attention to detail, pride in their work, proactive task management and team oriented enthusiasm.Ìý

Intern’s tasks will consist of three main buckets of work constituent services, research and communications. This experience includes interactions with Senator Wallace while you will be supervised by her full time legislative aide Ana Shoemate.Ìý

This internship is a time commitment with a significant portion in person at the State Capitol during the legislative session. We can work together to find a schedule that is both flexible and consistent. We are interested in onboarding before Jan 14th, prior to the legislative session interns will work remotely with weekly check in calls with Ana.

The role would be fast-paced, and a great opportunity, both for students who are interested in pursuing future careers in politics, campaigning, and/or advocacy, and those who are not, as this position will build on core skills such as research, writing, and interpersonal communication, all of which can be applied to other careers. Location: Primarily in-person, at the Colorado Capitol building. Occasional remote work may be available as well. Ana can work with the intern to create the best transportation plan, whether that is public transport, or driving a personal vehicle (parking may be subject to a fee).Ìý
